The San Antonio Spurs have seemingly lost its starting point guard for the rest of the season.

Tony Parker has a fractured right hand and he is not expected to be healed up till the season ends.

“We’ll find a different way to play and hope we can bide our time until he’s back,” Tim Duncan said.

“Nobody’s going to play like him, but we have to find a way to get it done.”

The Celtics are looking into whether Michael Finley is interested in joining the team, sources told the Boston Herald.

Boston wants to add to their roster and they were awaiting a final list of players that were bought out by the deadline on Monday night.

Richard Jefferson

Gregg Popovich has moved Jefferson — a starter in 548 of 623 career games — to the bench, partially in hopes of producing a long-awaited spark from his team’s defining offseason acquisition.

Jefferson has appeared as a reserve in both the Spurs’ games since the All-Star break, replaced at forward by Keith Bogans in a lineup shuffle.

The results for Jefferson have been mixed so far — one solid game in a victory over Indiana, one inconsequential outing in a 106-94 loss at Philadelphia.

The Miami Heat have indeed expressed interest in San Antonio’s Roger Mason, but the Miami deal that interested the Spurs most is no longer possible.

The Spurs were hoping to tempt Miami into absorbing Mason’s $3.8 million expiring contract into a $4.3 million trade exception. This would have enabled them to complete a deal without needing to take back another player.

A future second-round pick from the Heat would have completed the transaction.

The San Antonio Spurs are trying to unload Antonio McDyess and the remaining $7.5 million owed him after this season to clear a way to make a trade for Tyrus Thomas.

The Spurs have been searching for expiring deals to move McDyess, who will make $4.9 million next season and is guaranteed about $2.6 million in 2011-12.

Denver is rumored to be a potential landing spot for McDyess.

Roger Mason’s agent and the Spurs are attempting to find a trade for the veteran to have a larger role for the remainder of the 2009-10 season.

“Roger had a terrific season last year after the Spurs had a bunch of injuries, and now that everyone is back healthy and his minutes are limited, the Spurs are trying to do the right thing and find a good spot for him,” the agent said.

Manu Ginobili never thought he would wear another team’s uniform. Now, he has to allow that it is possible.

The 32-year-old Ginobili now knows that there is no contract extension coming from the Spurs, and that he probably will not be in San Antonio next season.

The Spurs have researched and are debating pursuing Suns forward Amare Stoudemire, according to league sources.

Questions remain about what San Antonio would be willing to give up, however, including whether or not they would part with Manu Ginobili.

Also, will the Spurs be willing to sign Stoudemire to a lucrative contract extension and increase their payroll?

“They know they’ve got to do something,” a source familiar with the front office’s thinking said. “They feel like they’ve got to at least look at this … and they are.”
