Kings rookie Tyreke Evans has apologized for publicly criticizing teammate Andres Nocioni following the team’s loss to the Thunder on Sunday.

The two players exchanged words during the fourth quarter and Evans told the Sacramento Bee after the game, “We were in the game, and you come down and take bad shots? That’s not team basketball.”

Evans said he and Nocioni resolved the matter after Monday’s practice.

Kings center Spencer Hawes was inactive for the team’s game against the Pistons on Tuesday night.

“I saw where he’s having a hard time understanding his role,” said Sacramento coach Paul Westphal. “He should understand it (after) tonight.”

Westphal did not give a specific reason for the benching, but Hawes has been vocal about his up-and-down minutes and changing roles.

Larry Hughes

The Sacramento Kings today waived guard Larry Hughes.

Hughes was acquired from the New York Knicks as part of a three-team trade on February 18, 2010, and did not appear in any contests with Sacramento.

Overall this season Hughes, when playing for the New York Knicks before coming to Sacramento, averaged 9.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 26.5 minutes per game.

Elsewhere on the trade front, there is the possibility that reserve point guard Sergio Rodriguez could find himself wearing a different jersey soon.

Sources said Memphis, New York and New Jersey have all inquired about the little-used fourth-year player, who is in the final season of his contract.

A potential trade may not result in the Kings taking back a player and instead saving the remaining money on Rodriguez’s salary this season of $1.8 million.

Sources close to the Pacers say there is significant interest from Sacramento in Troy Murphy.

The Kings are pursuing a straight up deal centered around the expiring contract of Kenny Thomas ($8.5 million).

Indiana would surely push to include at least one of the Kings prospects such as Donte Greene.

The Mavericks are among the teams interested in Kings shooting guard Kevin Martin.

The Sacramento Bee points out that the struggles of the two teams could increase the possibility of a deal. Dallas has lost four of their last five games, which may encourage them to swing a trade prior to the Feb. 18 deadline.

Any deal sending Martin to the Mavericks would likely have to involve a third team.

Danny Ainge has continued his attempts to trade Ray Allen, according to sources.

His most recent inquiry has involved the Kings, as he is interested in acquiring Kevin Martin in return.

Sacramento might be more inclined to deal Martin if a third team is involved.

Tyreke Evans

Tyreke Evans will be the NBA’s Rookie of the Year, but he has not completely endeared himself to teammates with the way he dominates the ball.

Make no mistake: Losing 16 of the past 18 games has played a big part with that. There are several teams watching the dynamic between Evans and Kevin Martin and wondering whether the Kings will become motivated to trade Martin.

Thus far, their talents do not seem compatible.

Even though Sacramento continues to insist they do not want to deal Kevin Martin, the Mavericks show a serious interest in the shooting guard.

The Mavericks, according to NBA front-office sources, tell the Kings they want to hear from them if they chance their position.

Sources close to the situation said that Dallas is now willing to include Josh Howard in a deal.

The rumbling is the Raptors considering sending underachieving point guard Jose Calderon to Sacramento for the Kevin Martin who does not curl.
