DeMarcus Cousins Demands Trade from Kings

DeMarcus Cousins has formally requested a trade and has been directed not to attend tonight’s game against the Hornets.

Kings coach Paul Westphal released the following statement:

Whenever a new season begins, in any sport, there is great hope that everything will progress in only a steady, upward direction. As we all know, it seldom happens like that in this life!

As coaches, we can only ask that our players do everything they can to improve themselves as individuals and teammates. If they do this with all their hearts, we live with the results.

Everything that happens on a team does not become known to the public. This is how it should be. However, when a player continually, aggressively, lets it be known that he is unwilling/unable to embrace traveling in the same direction as his team, it cannot be ignored indefinitely.

DeMarcus Cousins has demanded to be traded. In the best interest of our team as we go forward, he has been directed by me, with the support of management, to stay home from the New Orleans game tonight.

Samuel Dalembert Agrees to Deal with Rockets

The Houston Rockets have reached terms on a new contract with free-agent center Samuel Dalembert, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com that Dalembert has agreed to a two-year deal worth $13.7 million — $7 million this season and $6.7 million in 2012-13. But the Rockets have a team option for the second season that would allow them to buy out of the contract for a fee of $1.5 million.

Dalembert told Fox Sports Florida on Tuesday night that he was on the verge of re-signing with the Sacramento Kings, but the Kings issued a news release Wednesday afternoon saying they had withdrawn their offer to Dalembert.

The San Antonio Spurs are engaged in discussions about trading point guard Tony Parker to secure a high pick in Thursday’s draft, according to league sources.

The Spurs have talked to teams in the lottery, including the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings, who hold the fifth and seventh picks, respectively. The Kings are determined to get a frontline point guard.

It is unclear who the Spurs would prefer to take if they acquired a high lottery pick.

Both the Lakers and Kings have interest in trading with the Nuggets for Raymond Felton.

Felton was acquired by Denver in the Carmelo Anthony trade, but is considered less valuable to the team than Ty Lawson.

Felton will be a free agent after the 11-12 season.

Samuel Dalembert to Miami Heat?

Samuel Dalembert

Samuel Dalembert

One of the Heat’s top offseason priorities will be adding a veteran center, and Miami has strong interest in Sacramento free agent Samuel Dalembert.

But even if the midlevel exception remains part of the new labor deal (which is undetermined), the Heat knows other teams can offer Dalembert more and would not be surprised if he signs elsewhere.

If the midlevel survives, and if it is close to this year’s $5.8 million, that would give the Heat a better chance to find a decent center who could lessen the reliance on Joel Anthony and represent an upgrade over Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Erick Dampier and Jamaal Magloire.

New Arena for Kings Cheaper than Expected

DeMarcus Cousins

The cost of a new sports and entertainment complex to replace the old Arco Arena will cost $370 million, several sources confirmed for KCRA3.

The actual cost of construction would be under $300 million. However, the permitting, planning, and engineering of the project would increase the total cost, said multiple sources who asked not be identified.

“The cost is much cheaper than previous estimates,” said Sacramento City Councilman Steve Cohn.
