Rudy Fernandez

An NBA executive told the New York Times that the Blazers and Knicks are discussing a trade for Rudy Fernandez.

The Knicks would most likely part with either Wilson Chandler or Toney Douglas in such a deal.

Another league executive said Fernandez is available but the Blazers are hoping to receive a draft pick in return.

The Knicks currently do not have a first-round pick in Thursday’s draft.

The Blazers have the No. 22 and No. 44 picks in the upcoming draft and GM Kevin Pritchard has already spoken to other teams about potential trades.

We’re having discussions,” Pritchard told the Oregonian.

I would never get into the details of where and who — we don’t comment on that kind of speculation. But it’s our job to look at every opportunity. … You’re always assessing the landscape, whether you’re looking to move up, down or stay where you are. You’re always assessing your options.”

In a question and answer blog post, Ira Winderman suggests the Heat may be interested in acquiring Greg Oden from the Blazers.

I do think there is an outside chance the Heat makes a run at Greg Oden, or at least sees what the asking price would be,” writes Winderman.

Winderman has covered the Heat for 22 years.

Portland guard Brandon Roy has been coming off the bench since his dramatic return from knee surgery, but he does not plan to do that in the team’s do-or-die Game 6.

The Trail Blazers are down 3–2 to the Suns as the series shifts back to the Rose Garden.

I’m gonna ask to start,” Roy said following Portland’s Game 5 loss to Phoenix on Monday night.

It’s hard to get involved. I don’t think the guys are quite used to me coming off the bench and it’s hard for me to get my touches and try to get in a rhythm, so hopefully I’ll be able to get back into the starting lineup.”

Nicolas Batum

Nicolas Batum

On Tuesday night in Phoenix, Portland may have lost more than the game — Nicolas Batum suffered shoulder strain.

After the game, Batum could not lift his right arm above his head or move it very far backward in the visiting locker room at US Airways Center. So his playing status is at least in jeopardy going forward in the Blazers’ best-of-seven postseason series that is even at 1–1.

You know last year I played seven months with it and that was worse,” Batum said of his surgically repaired right shoulder. “So I’m sure I’m going to play.” Wait, is he sure? Or merely optimistic? “Optimistic,” he said, laughing, before estimating there to be a 50 percent chance.

The Portland Trail Blazers have signed Marcus Camby to a two-year contract extension. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Portland felt right to me since I got here and the support from the team, fans and organization has been incredible,” said Camby.

I’m looking forward to continuing my career as a Trail Blazer and think this team can do something special.”

Marcus Camby and the Trail Blazers are close to signing a two-year extension, which could be signed as early as today.

Since the day Marcus was traded, the Blazers and Marcus made it clear it was not for an interim engagement,” said Camby’s agent, Rick Kaplan. “It has been our goal to get something done, and hopefully he will stay in Portland.”

The deal is for two years and $21 million guaranteed. There is an additional $4 million of “unlikely bonuses” or incentives attached.

If the Trail Blazers sign Marcus Camby to an extension before he hits the free agent market, the Knicks may be forced to turn their attention towards Brad Miller.

New York is in desperate need of a center and Miller could be their next target, according to a league source.

Sources reported on Monday that Portland is close to agreeing to a two-year, $20 million extension with Camby, who is New York’s first choice.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh acquired Miller for the Pacers back in 2001 and he made an All-Star Game in 2003 before he went to Sacramento.

Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy underwent successful arthroscopic surgery today on his right knee to repair a partial tear of the meniscus, it was announced by General Manager Kevin Pritchard.

Roy, who will be sidelined for at least 1–2 weeks, will not travel with the team for the first two playoff games at Phoenix.

Dr. Don Roberts performed the knee arthroscopy this morning at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, WA.

Brandon Roy really, really wants to be playing in the playoffs but it seems highly unlikely, according to sources.

You can be sure the Trail Blazers would like to see the man who averaged 21.5 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game on the court when the team takes on Amare Stoudemire and the Phoenix Suns, but a torn meniscus is not something to sneeze at.
